In reply to a post by BatBoy:
Are there already BT phone cabinets? Fibre cabinets are installed alongside the existing cabinets.

No, the phone connections are all in a manhole on the grass verge.

So this is the "manhole at the top of the village"? I would hope they will install the fibre connections in a similar manhole alongside - or within 100 yards, anyway.

Cabinets are not in manholes, theres a couple of exceptions, like at Heathrow, but then these are chambers, not manholes.

Being a rural man I call them manholes, its where all the phone connections are.

So I'll rephrase. Can the high speed fibre kit go in a chamber?

On the FTTC roll-out no - Openreach do not do that, so only if FTTP is economically viable will it be installed in a pavement chamber

Thank you all

As we have overhead cables in the village I am assuming it will be FTTC and there will be a large green cabinet close to the chamber

Correct?

No, with FTTC the new cabinet will normally be close to an existing cabinet.

So look around your village/area to see where the existing cabinets are - the 'BT Availability Checker' should say which cabinet you are currently using.

For rural properties unfortunately the cabinet can be a long distance away which is a problem...
