Moving home

We are thinking about moving.
We have a couple of properties in mind, in different villages some 1 mile apart.
Now the interesting bit.
Property A
Bt suggest 6.5 to 8M
Sam says 7.5M
Rightmove has a broadband speed checker which says the property should get 11.38M

Property B
BT suggest 4.5 to 11.5M
Sam says 5.5M
Rightmove 5.56M

These are just on postcode checking and are different exchanges.
Property A Sam says is about 3Km from exchange and Property B about 1.5Km

Interesting, but without actually testing the line, it seems no way of getting even a wild guesstimate which in this day and age seems incredible.

Anyone have an easy answer?

Still not really answering the question of the various figures.
The only good thing is that a form of broadband will be available one way or the other at a speed to be determined at some time in the future which may or may not remain stable and free from any problems.
At least with dial-up, it would chug along happily and we wouldn't expect anything different.

You could ask the Estate Agent to ask the vendor, or ask the vendor directly if you make a visit.
Alternatively you might be able to find the phone number and get a better estimate.

Maybe the day will come when this is something a surveyor checks.

The Postcode checker is unreliable because many properties share a postcode. The address checker is more accurate as it's for one connection.

As BatBoy says, the checker he gave you is the best. All others are either based on it or unreliable. Postcode-only checks are usually junk. For instance, my postcode covers 30 houses.

My current FTTC speeds are in my sig. Note that the postcode checker didn't show FTTC. On ADSL2+ I got around 5.5Mbps.
