Interleaving depth.

I would like to find out about depths of interleaving and whether it is possible to set it at certain depth on Zen service.


Mine was on with my previous provider with pings around 46ms on BTw and 33ms on Speedtest.net.

After switch to Zen I could get the same sync (5240Kbps) and 4,5meg ip profile on 52dB line. Interleaving was turned off at this point and I was seeing many more errors on the line i.e. 3000+ crc and 2400+ es in a day as oppose to when interleaving was on (pings were down to 30ms BTw and around 24ms speedtest.net).



Now to the point. My interleaving has been switched on last night and I can sync at a higher speed --> 5280Kbps plus I see much less errors per 15minute periods which in calculation will amount to 384 CRC and 288 ES in one day if it stays like this.



So because of this I have stable connection at same speed which is good of course. But my ping has gone up.. On BTw it is now 55ms and on speedtest.net 45ms. I play games online and would like to have the ping as low as possible without decreasing the speed too much as my ip profile then would drop.

Hence the question regarding depth of interleaving. Is it possible to reduce it in stages? I think mine is at 32 at the moment guessing from dg834gt interface next to D:. Does it mean it is 32ms on top of "normal" latency? Can it be halved?

Pings had gone up from 30 to over 50 so I lost around 20ms somewhere. Basically after being put on fast path I gained few ms but because of the errors the interleaving got turned back on and pings gone from 30-33 up to 50-55 on the same equipment. Different depth? Is it possible to change depth within BTw or is it simply a matter of on/off?

Your stats are very good for your length of line. Your pings may be the least of your problems. Your ESs are very high; about 2 per sec. I'd expect about no more than 1 every 5 mins.

Did you hard reboot router about 7 mins before that post? If not, please do so and wait a few hours and post them again.

pings gone from 30-33 up to 50-55

They're both too high, indicative of lots of errors having to be corrected. I'd expect 12ms for Fast Path or 24ms for Interleaved, viz:

There you go. I did not reboot router but monitored connection. AS uptime refers to something but not sure what maybe the current sync as there is a counter with total uptime as well and that one is not shown in my initial post

Can you please have a look again here with all the info from the router. I personally do not think that it looks too bad. I had it connected at 5700~ Kbps but had to slow it down as the CRC started to appear much more frequent yesterday as you can see below. I wish I could have sub 30ms ping on Interleave. That would be ace. Can isp set different depth of int on the line?

That's better, about 1 ES per 1.5 mins, a bit on frequent side for interleaved. but it's variable over diff periods. I don't always trust those final period timings; they're a bit contradictory.

Ah yes, LOS = Loss of Signal might account for it. YOu've had 1 discon since rebooting router about 41.5 hrs ago but AS of 20.5 hrs is since then.

All this don't account for your high pings. Where are you measuring ping to?

I was using BTw and speedtest.net but started to do it via command prompt as well to bbc.co.uk. Pings were matching up pretty much with BTw giving occasional spikes in latency.

Now since then I have started up 2700hgv which gave me whooping 5840Kbps sync at 6dB but did not like that it was dropping SNR down too low last night and I could not stream youtube properly for that matter. It would just freeze.

I put netgear back on and slowed it down to 10dB SNR which still should hold me up on 4000 profile.

I got an average of 41ms after this and now it is average of 43ms.
