Really Slow Broadband

Got BT Broadband installed a couple of weeks ago.

My connection is really slow, struggle to stream iPlayer, downloads take forever.

Any ideas what I can do?

What BT product are you on?

Can you get the line statistics from the router so that we can see sync speeds, noise margin and attenuation.

Also, would be useful if you can do a BT speed test to find out how fast that says your line is (and if it hasn't changed it should have an advanced speed test that you can do after the standard that should tell us your "IP Profile".

On the initial results page is a Further Diagnostics button that goes there. The full content of both text boxes is best.

Thanks Bob. It is so long since I felt the need to do one I couldn't remember what the exact wording was...

It's just normal BT Broadband.

The router is a BT Home Hub 4.

Can't find anything about diagnostics or profiles anywhere in the menus.

how far are youf from the exchange

You can still do the BT Wholesale Performance (speed) Test Ian referred to, (ignore the red instructions), and it is the Further Diagnostics there that give the IP Profile.

Please can you copy and paste the full contents of both the down and up results text boxes . Not just the IP Profile.

You can also get the estimates for your line, (using the phone number), with this checker.

A quick google shows some discussion on line stats on this very forum from august. Have a look at the instructions here and see if that gives us any additional info.

Thanks for that it's been driving me mad trying to find those figures.

No need to post them, they were terrible so I tried replacing the ADSL filter and all is now well.
