Read and delivery recepts

I have BT broadband(no longer Yahoo)and I need to send emails and request a read and delivery receipt.
Is it possible?.

Whether you are or not there is something that is key to your question. Email systems do not have to honour read receipts so there is no guarantee that having no receipt means it hasn't been delivered. Outlook gives the option for the recipient to choose whether a receipt is sent and I personally always decline. Read receipts are generally a pointless function on email as they prove absolutely nothing.

If you receive a read receipt it means that the person to whom you have sent the email (or an imposter) has actually processed the email. Whether they have read it all, or understood any of it, is another matter.

There can be many reasons for not receiving a read receipt, as you say.

What mail client?

If you are using something like Microsoft Outlook then you can request both DELIVERY and READ receipts.

The former is confirmation that it reached the destination server and was accepted, the latter is whether the recipient actually read or deleted it. The Delivery receipt cannot be stopped, as far as I know, whereas a user can set his own email client to ignore Read receipt requests, ask if they should be sent, or send automatically.

I can use Outlook so how do I get a read and delivery receipt?.

Delivery receipts can be turned off on Exchange servers and probably any other decent server. Most organisations probably should turn them off so as to help combat spam - ie getting a response back from something shows it exists and makes it a more useful address to spammers.

In outlook 2010 when creating an email you click on Options and within the bar should be "Request a Delivery Receipt" and "Request a Read Receipt".

Non-receipt does not mean it didn't get delivered or read. I also suspect there is no legal standing whatsoever as even getting a receipt does not prove anything substantive.

Across the top are several tabs, select <Options>

There are two tick boxes - <Request A Delivery Receipt> and <Request A Read Receipt>

When I chose a Delivery Receipt, I have not, as far as I remember, failed to get response. So, if it can be turned off, very few seem to actually do that.
