Changing Sky wireless channels

Hi,

Logging in on http://192.168.0.1 to change Sky wireless channels.

This is something I have successfully done before BUT today the login: (user name) admin (password) sky will not work. Anyone shed any light?

Default username and password? Oh, dear! Someone else may have logged into your router and changed them. You may need to do a factory reset but make sure that you have all the necessary info before you proceed. Others here who are familiar with Sky will be able to advise. There is also the possibility that your router's firmware may have been hacked. Again others will be able to advise.

You must secure your router by changing the admin password (and username if possible). Both should be unguessable. You should also disable remote login unless you absolutely need it for remote support. Disabling wireless login is also a good idea if a wired connection is available.

Leaving username and password as the defaults - WHY? Do you leave your car keys in the ignition?

Is the password case sensitive, and/or have you got caps lock on?

If either of those thoughts is the problem, then once in, as others have said, change the password at least, if not both. You can safely write them down.

Are you sure you are connected to your Sky router?
Best to check hard wired.

I'm not sure if we are all talking about the same thing here. The Sky modem comes with a complex password to prevent unauthorised wireless access. I understood that the admin/sky combination allows a user INSIDE THE SYSTEM (i.e. logged in already with the complex password) to access modem controls. Can someone get in easily from outside without the password or being wired in?

Anyway, I did a factory reset and finally figured out my immediate problem - I was using a tablet with an onscreen keyboard set to capitalise the first letter - so password 'sky' was becoming 'Sky' (duh) and therefore obviously not working. I have now reset it with a new, very complex multi digit password.

Also I appreciate all your comments - stirred me to get it done.

I must admit that I have relied on wireless encryption to protect my router, and I left it with the default password for years. It now has a strong password since I started using a password manager.

Yes, if remote management (over the internet) is enabled. All that is needed is the IP address of your router.

I have a Sky router together with a FON router giving me three SSID's. All my portable devices have apps to connect automatically to Sky, Fon, and BT devices. I have to make sure I am connected to the correct device!

If they have connection to the internet and wasn't connected to their router, I would make a note of it for Free Internet
