Estimated speeds

Since adsl2+ was enabled on my exchange many many years ago, all BT availability checkers have said i can get 8mbps downstream. Last few weeks the same checkers now say i can get 10mbps. So what's changed?

Could more people signing up to fibre and less crosstalk on adsl be the reason for the apparent speed increase?
