Re: Why does BT checker massively underestimate my speeds?

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

As an experiment I tried entering the phone numbers of our three nearest neighbours on each side into the BT checker -for one of them it estimated their download speed as 4.5mbps with a download range of 3-7.5mbps, for the second speeds of 2.5 and 1-5mbps (same as mine) and for the third (furthest from the exchange) speeds of 5mbps and 3-7mbps.

Is there any way to make these checkers give a more accurate estimate for my property since it should be the same as the two properties with the highest numbers? Is it worth contacting my ISP or are these figures worked out automatically and can't be changed in anyway?

Sadly most ISP's aren't bothered they will use the lowest figure in the estimate regardless of what you actually sync at, They will almost certainly try and use this should you have speed issues in the future, they are known to use as a way of shirking on their responsibilities

ISP has paths available to pass on change requests but generally only do this for more extreme errors
