In reply to a post by btbert:
"you don't need to worry about claiming back the cost of the fuel etc."

So you can take your own car and get back the cost of fuel ? Is so why would anyone take a OR van up there ? Got to be better to have your own car up there !

Because once you get your van they won't let you put in claims for your own vehicle. They want you to use the van. But new starters may have to wait a good few weeks to get their van.

As for perks, free Infinity 2 broadband and heaviliy discounted BT TV and BT Mobile packages.

Pay, I don't know. New staff are on a different pay band and contract, which is lower than what everyone else is on.

Yeah sadly that's what the existing staff are on (pretty much, when you take into account the few hours a week overtime every tends to do). New staff aren't on that, I know that much.

My starting is £22,374 as a network engineer so quite a way from £30k!

Yea but it doesn't make sense to quote the "starting" salary really. Top of the grade for the old contract (ie what most OR engineers that you'll see out and about) is pretty much £29k, once you add in (almost unavoidable) overtime they're easily on over £30k.

I've a feeling the top of the new pay band is only around £23-24k with some kind of performance based bonus on top of that.

Well he said he's thinking of joining so the starting salary is pretty relevant if comparing to his current wage.. Not as though you can join further up the pay band, whatever that may be. Performance bonus is up to 10%. Unfortunately new starters always get a poor deal nowadays, same with the company I'm leaving. Gives more incentive to progress I guess. If you think about how many people are being taken on constantly I'm not surprised they don't want to pay 29k+ anymore! Oh and overtime isn't optional any more..
