Help with Unfiltered BB Question

Hiya. This is not for speed but for house aesthetics!

Is it possible I can solder 2 wires before it gets to the master socket directly to the RJ11 cable from my Modem?

I have no phones etc on that line. Its simply to remove the large filter from my wall.

NO. Pure and Simple.

You cannot do anything to the wires before the master - that is BT Openreach's property and you are not permitted to do anything to it.

As there are no phones, a filter is not needed so revert the front plate to and use a BT 431A to RJ converter.

Not in all cases, we had our NTE5A Master socked taken out by a bad thunder storm above our house, that killed our actual phone and modem/router that was connected to the line at the time, it wasn't the lightning that did it but more the static discharge.

Had to phone BT to report this as a fault and was told its an internal fault in our house and that we would be charged £130 (I think it was that amount) so thinking sod that so I ended up buying my own NTE5A Master Socket along with the BT Faceplate and dsl filter and fitted it myself, so in my eyes they are mine and not BTORs property, every engineer visit we have had since I have told them the same and showed them the chard broken one and they said fine.

Granted the BT80 and the cables from it to "our" master socket is their responsibility, so I also say no.

As a consumner I have no relationship with Openreach.

Suppose the contract for phone and broadband is with the Post Office. I don't see anything in the Post Office T&Cs that says what I can and can't do with my home phone wiring.

You also don't have a contract with the local electricity board or gas board but they'll take issue if you mess with their supply coming into your home.

Those supplies have meters and are more hazardous to work with.

The principle is the same though. Someone is responsble for the incoming connection and you're not to tamper with it.

Can you identify where it says that?

Try to mess with it, get it wrong and see if you don't get a bill.

Simplistically, operating and working on a public communications network requires a license issued by OFCOM.

The network includes all elements up to and including the NTE, so by making unauthorised changes to a licensed system, you have contravened the relevant Acts.
