Consider carefully.
Is the holiday worth risking a job, with very definite training (not airy-fairy), you'll learn a lot applicable to other situations etc.

Hi, this is an area I'm still unsure about... Service engineer and network engineer, are they the same or different?
All I know is the position I've been offered is NE2 Network Engineer! Anybody on here shed some light as to what the NE2 part means? Obviously at a guess it's NetworkEngineer2 so just the 2 I'm curious about.
As for your interviews... That's EXACTLY how mine went! First one better than the second and Repetition of the question and hints as to they were looking for a bit more or more words in specific.
I think it's a case of they liked the look of your application so want to get a better idea of you by inviting to the assessment centre, not sure if it's the same throughout the country but forget about the fact they took a picture and your passport details etc...... If successful they ask for it all again!
There was 9 of us at the one I was at, 90 miles away from my home and 1 of them was from my area, a few from around 20 miles away from me, then 1 or 2 from Leeds area where the assessment centre was.
It took them 3 days to get back to me so good luck and I hope it goes well for you!

I am a bit confused now. I have just received my email with details of training etc. My contract says I am a Network Engineer NE2 team member... however the email I have been sent is for service delivery and training covers broadband, tv etc etc. It's from the NOTV team. What does NE2 mean?
Aren't these different roles and if so, how am I being trained for Service Engineer when my job contract offer is Network Engineer or is there really no difference?
How is the driving theory and test? I have driven vans for years and my personal vehicle is a VW T5 so used to them but any driving test is always a nightmare.... suddenly can't seem to parallel park!

Yea I'm pretty sure the lady on the phone said mine was home service delivery but my contract just says network engineer. I guess its just a broad term to cover the fact they might get you doing other stuff too.
If the driving test is anything like the one I did for my current job its easy peasy. Just a video, a couple of forms and just driving around for an hour or so to make sure you aren't a maniac

Hi,
I've seen a few people in here had holidays booked and their training was just a little delayed because of their holiday. Lucky I just noticed on the brochure they are fine with the holiday thing :
"Please tell us
upfront if you have any holidays booked so you can get the most out of this training. If you do have a break we may need
to book you on a later course to ensure your training is continuous"
Consider carefully.

I did find a write up somewhere yesterday that said the difference between the roles. A service delivery engineer will work alone mostly, visiting properties, installing new lines and repairing faulty ones (which also means working outside and up the poles). Network engineer is more of a team based role as you will be working inside buildings, working on building and upgrading the infastructure network and such.
Some just posted they were told they were service delivery though but the contract says network engineer so I don't know if they just always write network engineer or something.
So your interview went a lot like mine, and you got the job. That's good!

Could it be that first being trained as a Service Engineer better prepares you for the Network Engineer side?

I had an email from openreach on wednesday 6th April asking me to ring back to confirm availabilty for the 19th April for half day assessment in Ipswich . When i called back i was told they're nolonger booking anymore applicants for assessment. Is this normal ?? I applied for the Openreach engineers role in January, i've read some people have been on the system for over a year.
Good luck to all who are going to the assessment and congratulations to those who were successful.

Hi, strange for them to kinda offer you a place and then take it away when you rang back. Especially as it wasn't a long period of time for you to ring them back...
I applied December 2014 and only heard back this March! So you heard reasonably quick compared to some lol.
Maybe they've filled their quota for your area now and that's why they've stopped booking assessments in?

That's so strange and really disappointing. I had an email to ask if I was free for a telephone interview and it was on the phone after she asked me a few questions and I was offered a date for the assessment centre and then via email confirmed all the stuff I needed to bring so on. Maybe try replying to the email, will it let you do that? I applied in 2013, I got lost in the system apparently, then re applied June 15, got assessment next Tuesday.
