Re: Any current Hotmail problems?

[re: RobertoS] [link to this post]

No, as written, AFTER either 30 or 60 days. I have seen comments on forums quoting both periods.

It's possibly a way of weeding out dormant accounts whereby only those who really want the email address resurrected will try again after this period.

Remember that all emails have been deleted after aliases are deleted so there is nothing ro recover. Also, the sender has no bounce back alerts warning rhat the account is disabled.

It's the sort of quality service which I would expect from a free Microsoft product!

Sorry, I misunderstood your previous post. I read it as the account and emails would be restored blush.

I use hotmail.co.uk in Thunderbird on Linux using Pop3 , I had no problems but my wife has,it started about a week ago, it shows a server error .
She can use her hotmail.co.uk account ok with 'webmail' .
I have spent a lot of time trying to solve this.

Perhaps her account has been moved to the Outlook.com service but yours has not, yet? As I said though, I did receive emails telling me my account was being moved, so if you've not been notified maybe you've not moved.

I did take a look and found that if you logon using webmail and see "Outlook Mail" or "Outlook Email" above the inbox you're on the new server, if you see "Outlook.com" you're on the old (yes, seems wrong way round doesn't it?). t I looked and my account shows "Outlook Email".

I also found that POP3 is switched off by default in Outlook.com and you need to switch it on, but you probably know that.

Good luck.

John

I've now found that it was an app problem on her smart phone !

However I've now found someone else who's had Hotmail problems for 3 or 4 weeks. She can use it via webmail but not via MS Office Outlook. I've asked her to check POP & SMTP settings just in case. If need be I'll go and have a look.

If you find a solution to your wife's Hotmail problems I would appreciate you posting it here.

Not yet, as far as I know. I only heard about it yesterday so there's been negligible time for her to do anything. And as she's a busy mother, and she can use webmail, it may not be her top priority.

Yes, as advised in Outlook.com migration changes; What do I need to know and do? I removed the Outlook Connector from OL 2003 and added back in my Hotmail a/c as POP3/SMTP. It reads emails but won't send (after a long delay it says SMTP does not support SSL, altho' I know it does), which is why I installed the Outlook Connector in the 1st place. I still use WLM for sending, which I rarely do.

hotmail loads fine here.

whilst the service has migrated to outlook, thats merely a brand change, hotmail.com is still active.

Hotmail just stopped working in last hour on both OL & WLM on PC & Mail app on mobile. Of course creds & other settings are unchanged.

Webmail, of the "Outlook Email" flavour, is still up.
