My 2 devices use no more electricity than the Billion 7800N they replaced.
With your one box system you have zero flexibility, you can't configure your firewall with ip tables or set up your own servers or media systems.
It would take all afternoon to list the options you don't have with your one box system.
As to your Billion 8800N having weak WiFi ....... perhaps you should seek advice on setting it up correctly.
That router runs at the maximum signal output allowed in the UK.
I agree with you on the power front. My entire office with several machines, a server a CCTV system and card machine, along with 2 Phones/AIO Routers is (according to the BG smart meter) 2p/hour to run,
It's on 24/7 and my last electric bill was just over £120 for the quarter. I am on a basic standard tariff only
So not expensive at all
I use the Billion 8800NL and never had a problem with it. I went back to the HG612 and a linksys for my backup line, mainly for the reasons that you didn't list
I don't use wifi so it's off via the rear button. I also know it does not have GB ports but as I use it for 80/20 max then really not bothered.
I like it - I also like the look of the DrayTek
