I have no doubt that my three box solution (modem/router, firewall and separate wifi access point) uses more electricity but as my flat has no central heating it helps keep me warm

I can also put my wifi access point centrally even though the phone line comes in by the front door. My router is in the best possible place for the phone socket, my access point is in the best place for getting wifi around the flat. Once box solutions usually necessitate a compromise.
