Correct, 100m is the limit, and only in exceptional circumstances.

Errrrmm.

The maximum cabling distance between the FTTC cabinet and its PCP is 100 metres. Giving a practicable ground-level maximum of 80 metres.

The Openreach preferred maximum distance is 50 metres. I don't know if that is cabling or ground-level.

Just had a look at planned work on roadworks and it looks like my water meter is being fitted within the next few days.

Noticed the planned work that says "interim to permanent" by BT on the main road, thats where it said duct work before.

As long as the cabinet isn't to be built where your water meter is going .... [chuckle]

While this might be true, it doesn't make sense, that would mean everyone on that cabinet with fibre will have an extra ~200m (or more) of copper (if they are lucky) reducing their speeds even more, so the lines that might of been within the binderies of being offered fibre to then not being offered it.

Or am I completely missing something here?

Mine is at the mouth of my drive in the middle so I am stuffed if I need to go out, its booked 30 Jan to Feb 3 hope it doesnt take that long. Its just off the pavement.

The distance from the cabinet for attenuation estimation has always been cabling premises to PCP plus cabling from PCP to FTTC cabinet. Note only one length between the cabinets, not the two that are used.

This is why Openreach want the two cabinets as close as possible. Fifty metres is the preferred maximum, not a target distance.
