Re: Openreach Employment 4

I attended a meeting with some of the senior guys at Openreach. Basically it was to get feedback on how the new recruits are fitting in and what improvements could be made. Anyways, come back with certain info which might be handy for you guys.

As its the end if the financial year the budget is really tight. New budget does not start until April so that when major developments will start happening. I'm assuming this will apply to training as its a considerable cost seeing as though they have taken on 2000 engineers. Also training will be changed to what the last intake received. We had 5 weeks training followed by 2 1/2 weeks with a buddy. New recruits will receive a better training schedule something along the lines of 1 weeks clasroom based folllowed by another weeks with a buddy. On the various topics this will continue and you'll receive roughly 6 weeks out with a buddy. For you guys this will be much better than what we received and should aid learning.

They seem to be trying to get a lot of feedback from us newer recruits so that they can improve the training for you newer guys who have yet to be given a start date. I know its been a long wait but trust me from I have heard you will be getting a much more comprehensive training package which gives you more time to take onboard and learn the things which you are taught.

My opinion if younare serious about the job it will be worth the wait.

Cheers Dylan

Fingers crossed we'll be getting a start in April. Pleased they are improving the training

I do have a friend who works in HR at BT, he said the financial year always brings new job opportunities across the company, so I'm presuming OR will be the same.

Everything is pointing to that

youd have thought that theyd have signed off the jobs financially before interviewing us all though. and what would have happened if finance said no, doesnt bear thinking about.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket. They still might say no yet. I would not be surprised the way this process has gone.

Got offered a new role in work today. They don't know I'm leaving should I get offered a job with BT. Got to keep your options open for sure.

I agree, nor do you want to burn bridges.
