Odd disconnection

I just had my connection stop working - had a red 'X' in the network icon on the taskbar which stated 'no connection', and the Ethernet 1 light was off on the router (Billion7800 NXL) - and then the light began to flash now and then, eventually staying on, and the router status showed no disconnection (Up for 4 days 7 hours).

But, the log shows it dropped the link at 18.33 and came back on at 18.35:

I've had disconnection problems before now and then, and usually with a yellow triangle in the icon, but not had a complete 'red X' one without it showing that it had been disconnected in the router stats.
The BQM doesn't show a disconnection either.

From that log looks like your ethernet port stopped working then started again. Could be the router's switch port is dodgy or you ethernet port on the computer is having some problems.

Assuming you are using DHCP auto config for the LAN on the router it could be just renewing itself. How long has the PC been on?

Edit: Could also be a dodgy plug/cable. Cheapest to change and test.

Haven't a clue what it could be - computers been on since 10.30am as usual.

DHCP states admin-pc expires in 22 hours, 16 minutes, 26 seconds

I checked the cable was firmly plugged din both ends before it connected again.

If it happens again, I'll look out the old cable off the last router and try that. This router & cable is 10 months old.

Has it been ok today. I just rewired my studio ethernet cables and found I no longer need an ethernet switch.

Yes, it's been fine so far thanks - for all everything felt solidly connected, something may have been slightly loose, but not at all sure what caused it.
