Re: WBC FTTC 18x2 Sim Availability

Are you trying their "Retail" site? If so, that will not, as far as I have see, return FTTC availability where the forecast is below 15Mbps. I have just tried it, with a number that shows FTTC at around 3Mbps on the BT http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome and FTTC service is fully operational there - the BT retail only offers ADSL.

You do need to speak/livechat with BT to get Faster BB.

I assumed it was, that's why i asked about it. I don't see the point in paying for 40 or 52/10 product when i'll get nowhere near those speeds. I don't mind paying extra but if im getting similar speeds with adsl service then openreach/bt have no chance of getting people to switch to vdsl.

Is it cheaper? It can be. I know of one case where the initial verbal offer from BT was lower than a 40/xx option abd after negotiation dropped even more. And someone with A&A also obtained a lower than normal rate.

As for those towards the 15Mb limit - what upstream could they get? It is unlikely to be close to 10 and potentially down towards the 2Mb regions. Find someone that has a 16Mbps sync on a 40/10 service and we can see what their upstream is.

edit to add:

Have had a quick look at MyDSLWebstats:

Bald Eagle 25 Down 4.4 up
Bobsta 22 Down 2.5 up - max achievable.

Yes, every case will be different but that does suggest that with below 20Mbps downstream, the upstream is unlikely to go much above 2.5 Mbps ... so would there be any benefit of a greater than 2Mbps offering?

Yes it was their retail website. I do remember being offered "faster broadband" before my cabinet change but had no idea it was the 18/2 product. Don't see why it wouldn't show now, but i believe their website hasn't updated yet. I think it still thinks i'm on cabinet 1 as it says fibre isn't available due to cabinet being full (cab1) I'm now on cab 8.

I'll go try my luck now with them and will keep the forum updated just in case someone has similar questions.

Michael.

Couldn't tell me anything on live chat so had to call them.

According to them fibre cabinet is full, so my guess is it hasn't updated on their system yet that i'm on a different cabinet. I'll have to keep trying.

I don't see me saving much with the faster broadband option so might just bite the bullet and go with plusnet.

If the cabinet is full then Plusnet will not be able to offer you anything either!

Could be that BT Retail have an updated database whereas Plusnet do not. Try it and see what they come back with.

Cabinet 1 was full before my cabinet change. According to the availability checker. Cabinet 8 however (the one im on now) was just activated today (Been checking daily to check its progress) There is no way cab 8 is full already, they just started accepting orders today i believe.

In which case, it is probably BT that have not updated their database.

Is it an all in one cabinet?

If so, it won't be accepting order for a while until the live to live migration process it done.

It is. Doesn't explain plusnet selling the product though. It has to be a problem with BT. Didn't particularly want to go back with plusnet due to problems with them in the past. I'll be patient for another couple of days and see if it changes.
