Never understood it. It's not an error either, it's always been that way.

I am just trying to find a quote I had for "Faster Broadband" - it was actually quite cheap and well below the Infinity 1 price. One call was all it took and there was no point in trying to negotiate as it was an excellent offer.

I contacted live chat a few moments ago and there were no offers for faster broadband unfortunately. Infinity 1 is on offer but i'm not allowed that for whatever reason. Perhaps i do need to call them for a better price.

I suspect it's because there's little competition for "sub 15meg" FTTC products.

You need to point out that you will be happy to accept Fater Broadband as you believe that is all your line will support and that you understand their reasons (marketing/sales/advertising) for not offering the Infinity product (in name only) for slower lines.

Then, say as you are accepting a lower standard of service, in terms of speed, then BT should be offering a lower price to compensate for that and that their costs will be lower as you will not be able to download anywhere near as much data. Aim for £15 month and settle for £20 would be my targets. Fairly sure I was offered around the £15 mark for a line I was working with.

If they will not move, then demand Infinity1 - point out it will work on your line but give sub-15Mbps speeds and that you are prepared to pay £xx for it.

Probably so but their base infinity (without offers) price is still cheaper than their base faster broadband price. I don't much understand that but that's the way they do their pricing, for god knows what reason.

Contacted bt by telephone but still the same offer of £38.00. Lady i spoke to said infinity 1 was impossible as she had no option to order it for me. We both had a little rant at how silly this was, she seemed literate when it came to broadband which was nice, said she was going to relay feedback to management (i'll take that with a grain of salt) but i hope she does and it gets sorted. Such weird pricing.

Anyway, i think i'll go with plusnet or sky. I'd like to get an order in fast to see what sort of speeds i get with fibre.

I havent seen anyone retail it. However I have seen some BT customers who have been moved onto it from ADSL2 as some kind of retention deal presumably. If youre a long way from the exchange its a good way of giving a nice bump in speed.

The customers I saw that had it were close to cabinets, so could have had the 80/20 service but were put on the Openreach 20/2 service. So you do see it, its just not very popular with ISPs.

I guess i'll find out soon enough. Have sky fibre install this Wednesday coming. I have a knot in my stomach thinking vdsl is going to fail at my distance (2.5km) The checker shows upto 11mbps. Probably won't get that but i'll not know till i try.

As for the slower tier packages, i didn't bother with them. Only BT offered it at an extortionate price. Their 52mbps package was cheaper than the "faster broadband" upto 15mbps.

Ended up going with sky. I'll create a new post with my stats after the 10 day training period to let folks know with a similar line/length to my own what speeds they might expect.
