Speed test difference BT v Thinkbroadband

[link to this post]

Over the last week my BB seems to have been slow and did dropout completely for about 15 secs a couple of days back, so I decided to run a speed test.

The BT Wholesale Test gives a result of 3.9/0.22, while Thinkbroadband gives a result of 6.3/0.3. It used to be that both would give virtually the same result at about 6.3 or better.

This is tested on a hardwired 100Mbps Ethernet PC, the same as I always us for these tests. ISP is John Lewis/Plusnet and has been for the last 18mths or so.

Any reason why there should be a difference? I can't help thinking that BT are playing tricks because of the hard time they and others are getting about advertised speeds - but I can't quite see how this would help?

I'm on Adsl Max. IP Profile is 7.15. Router stats shows the following:-

Rx Sync 8128Kbps
Rx noise 6.5db
Line Attenutation 16/30.5
S/N Margin 23.0/6.5

FEC Errors 12/23.011
CRC Errors 0/15
HEC Errors -/15/172

Bits/tone loading looks as it always has been for the last several years

Up time has only been 2 days since the connection dropped completely for about 15 secs.

Thanks

Need to see the results graphs from the thinkbroadband test.

As for difference the BT Wholesale speed test is not scaled to be a speed test for every day use.

Seems fine to me
1. Best Effort Test:

Download Speed : 72.01 Mbps

2. Upstream Test:

Upload Speed : 17.29 Mbps
No IP profile though.

Sorry but I don't understand this. When is it to be used then?

Of course the Frolicking Fairy Lights. No wonder they keep flashing when I used the internet.

Original intention was more as a diagnostic tool for testing across the BT Wholesale elements, rather than a full Internet test.
