Re: Getting less than half the advertised speed?

Yes. My main use is IPTV via a fire stick and iPads etc. For buffer free viewing 20-30 mb wont cut it. HD channels occasionally buffered with BT getting 30-40mb. Which was why I took 76mb. 76 over Ethernet is as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

One of the things to speed up wifi on a Home Hub is to split the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands so they have different SSID's

Today I got an email purporting to be from TT asking if I wanted to be on a trial for new firmware on the hg633 that is supposed to correct problems with wifi, no idea if it is kosher.

Im gonna try this on a Hub 4. Will do as a temporary measure but could u guys recommend me a decent modem/ router that will give near Ethernet speed over Wi-fi. £100 max new or second hand
HG635 on eBay will be fine.

Ensure to split the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands.

I just want to be clear full HD on Netflix is around 5Mbps not anywhere near 20 to 30.

You can do full HD streaming with sub 10 meg.

It sounds like the quality of your WiFi is very poor indeed - you need to ensure you are not using 2.4ghz by splitting the SSIDs.

Splitting didn't make any difference to be honest. On the BT Hub 6 when I was on BT I split SSID and it did make a difference. I got a constant 50mb on 5GHZ on 2.4 I got around 35mb on this Talk Talk setup doesn't make any difference.

On the Talk Talk hub 5Ghz gives millions of errors, on the hub 4 no difference. I am getting a hub 5 today to give it a whirl.

Out of interest, someone mentioned a Talk Talk trial of firmware to improve wifi etc. I have come across the link in case it helps anyone else. https://community.talktalk.co.uk/t5/Our-Blog/Calling...

I'm talking more Kodi, IPTV Subs etc that aren't exactly all above board.

Kodi etc the 4K 20meg streams never work well even on a 1000meg private line down and up I have in the office.

Why are you getting a hub 5? Do hub 5s not have ipv6? If they do it wont work.
