You quite possibly aren't allowed to do that, in your contract of employment. In many businesses it could be a sackable offence.
Think if you give someone some advice here which for some reason or other doesn't solve a problem, but turns a customer with the problem into a very annoyed one, because one of XLN's staff gave him advice which didn't solve it or help? Which contradicted the official advice given.
The first thing that would happen would be the customer would refer to your participation here when complaining to senior XLN staff. Details of your exchanges with the customer would inevitably get back to base.
Quite apart from the question of why you suggest PM if you aren't going to be asking for personal information? This is a public forum and advice is sought and given publicly all the time. It's to be hoped you wouldn't be giving confidential XLN information in PM either.
See how complicated things get?
It's also quite easy for a scammer to send an email purporting (if not closely examined) to be from XLN. As far as this site is concerned you may have done that.
In any case, the post you initially replied to said the customer had decided to go with another company.
