Exchange only line identification

[link to this post]

Hello everyone
I searched a friend's number on the BT DSL check and it came back showing the exchange (STONEHAVEN) but no cabinet number. Does this mean it's an EO line? There were no fibre options available, I'm sure there is in Stonehaven generally though.
Thanks.

If no cab number is shown on the checker then yes, an exchange only line. It would appear that whilst 16 PCPs have FTTC twins there are six bundles of EO lines where ADSL is all that is currently available. One further cabinet, PCP40, is planned to have FTTC by the end of the year.

Yes, thats what it means.

It is also why there is no FTTC available on the line, as that cannot be supplied on EO lines. As you can see from this checker, only some areas on that exchange can get it, for that reason. Some however can get native FTTP. If your friends line on the BT checker doesnt show that either, then for the moment thats it Im afraid.

ADSL2+ of course , not just ADSL smile. Including Sky, and TalkTalk with many TalkTalk Business ISPs.

Just assume people mean ADSL2+ as the vast, vast majority of exchanges support it. ADSL2+ is a mouthful!

Agreed. Very much the same way as people say VDSL when it is VDSL2.

I tend to use ADSL max (still the only thing available) to differentiate from ADSL2+.

I've seen that smile. It does clarify things.

The thing is this is a technical forum for technical questions. Not a twitter conversation. Recently there was a thread where the OP was asking for help because his phone wasn't working but his broadband was fine. Not even slowed.

There were nine replies with technical answers before I asked the basic one. Was the phone plugged in! Somebody who has posted in this thread will remember that wink.

It turned out it was, but?

Give the wrong facts or ask the wrong questions and you get the wrong answers.

Simples.
