Package downgrade

[link to this post]

Asking for a friend, they are on BT FTTP package and are paying in excess of £55 a month for 150Mbps when they will be fine on 50Mbps, is it possible to call customer services and downgrade without penalty fees for changing mid contract?

I would say no. If they are in contract then any downgrade will incur penalties - upgrades normally are allowed but downgrades are not, they contracted for the term. The penalty may not be the full payment though although by the time you have paid penalties then it would probably be nearly as cheap just to keep it until the contract ends.

This may sound really unhelpful, however I don't mean it to be...

Give them a call and ask the question? We can speculate on here, however we won't be able to give you a definitive answer or know the discretion the customer service agent has.

First you need to find out why they are on this package.
If they voluntarily chose the package, possibly not, they would need to phone and ask.
If fibre was installed and they where told the only way to get it was to take that package, then there might be a case for mis selling, they would then need to raise a complaint.

Get ur pointer but no, not for me,
Im not fussed about my package/speed, its a friend who lives on their own and can only get fttp broadband (copper adsl <1Mbps), so was asking as they been on that package to start with,
was just after any pointers if anyone had experience with it, as a bill going to around £30-£40 instead of £55+ per month is a big saver as they only need 40/10 really for their needs.

How long is there still to run on the contract, and how long was it in the first place? Whatever it is, it sounds a bit like mis-selling at some point.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.
