I think the OP refers to his/her email address being listed with his/her bank account details for authentication purposes etc.

We have several online accounts as well as utilities etc. When changing from BT five years ago we carefully went through all our affairs to remove our BT mail address and replace with our new email. As suggested on this forum we chose an independent provider, in our case Fastmail for about £23 pa. Our BT account still works although we left five years ago.

£23 per year for email! Wowzer - do you get something special for that? I only pay Gandi £6 per year for a .co.uk domain that i then issue the prefix of each company so they get their own email address and use their built in mail server.

Sorry Gary, senior moment which frightened me as well as yourself! I picked up Fastmail's Basic price but in fact I'm on the Lite package which costs £13.70 pa. I realise that Gmail may be just as efficient but I cannot abide Google's spying.
