Think about it for more than 1 second. Why would an offline database from other companies other than your supplier have any effect on your line. Its madness to think there is any link whatsoever. As has been pointed out more than once it is highly likely someone who has a phone line in close proximity to your line in the cable bundle back to the drop point or cabinet has connected to FTTC. This cross talk interference then dropped your line speed slightly.

This is no Moulder & Scully moment, not is it a group of people in a smokey back room doing untoward things.

Why on earth would your ISP reduce your speed if you were thinking of leaving? It would only reinforce your resolve.

Yes, you are being paranoid. There's a lot of it about. wink

Do they all use offline databases of their own?

I thought they might have used the openreach database live online to get their estimates.
Maybe i guessed wrong though.

I might of been drunk when I wrote that part about my isp wink

I can't remember what I meant there hahahaha

Oh! I remember now! I was probably thinking at the time, maybe after getting those max 67 speed estimates, the live database sent a signal to the DLM on my cabinet to slow it down to 67.......

The more likely scenario here is your line check was reporting what your line should have been syncing at based on the current stats, but if it hadn't resynced in a while you would still be connected at what it previously could handle before the crosstalk you are now subjected to.

Particularly if you are on an ECI cabinet, DLM wont allow you to sync lower than 6dB SNR, your line had probably drifting below this so the re-sync meant your speed reduced.

Over the last couple of years my own line has slowly reduced from 79Mbit to 66Mbit. That's just the way it is with more and more people getting VDSL. I know around here there used to be a lot of mobile hotspots, as they have changed into Sky and Talk Talk, my speed reduced, showing the clear indication of what caused the extra crosstalk.

That's interesting! I am on an ECI cabinet with 6dB SNR Margin.

Before I went on holiday last Easter my sync speed was 80/20 with 3dB SNR Margin. could this mean I could of been on a different cabinet then?

I've always suspected they changed my connection from a cabinet that is 250 metres away to the one that is now 450 metres away, while I was on holiday.

That's about as likely as the moon being made of blue cheese. Quit obsessing about this and accept that speeds are going to change over time and for the most part downwards until such time as your neighbours have moved to FTTP or 5G.

Yes indeed, it seems unlikely.
So I take it it is possible to get 80/20 sync from an ECI cabinet that's 450 metres away?
(cabinet doesn't have G.IMP or vectoring enabled.)
