Its not a connection issue so I am guessing server side, might just be a case of apache need restarting

No, not you, it is technically alive, as the web server will return a 400 error:

Please forward this error screen to kitz.servers.eqx.misp.co.uk's <a href="mailto:[email protected]?subject=Error message [400] (none) for (none) port 80 on Thursday, 14-May-2020 23:27:18 BST"> WebMaster</a>.

So some kind of web server issue.

Sorry about that. I've phoned my hosts who told me its "planned maintenance".

Unfortunately since Vidahost got taken over, communication is carp. They told me they were upgrading software on May 5th and I did post a notification about that. No warning about anything tonight though. :/

Just an update on this.

I began to be suspicious during the early hours that it wasn't just scheduled maintenance and attempted a few things myself such as restarting various services without success.

The latest information is that it is a network issue affecting their WHM/cPanel servers so not quite sure what they borked during the update :/
