Broadband disconnecting

[link to this post]

I've got superfast broadband with Talktalk and for quite a few months it's been disconnecting randomly for 20-30 seconds. Talktalk had no customer service until this week and I spoke to them yesterday. They did all the line tests and told me that there is nothing wrong. Although I see the disconnections when I use my PC and also on my TV box (saying no network).
I tried using your broadband quality monitor to prove how often it happens but it shows 100% packet loss. I then looked at my Windows 8 firewall settings and enabled icmp ping by creating a new inbound rule. But the monitor still doesn't work.
Help, someone please!

Re the Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) check your current IP address is what is set up in it. On TalkTalk it is quite possible it will change every time you reconnect.

As for the problem itself, at the moment I can't help, sorry.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Uh uh. I just realised what you said about the ping. You need to enable it in the firewall settings of your router. You shouldn't need that rule in Windows 8.

How do all your devices connect to the router ? If all by wifi, this could be the issue, try connecting something using ethernet and see if the symptoms persist with that device.

When you have the disconnects log into the TalkTalk router and look at the status of the DSL interface i.e. is the ADSL or VDSL resyncing

One random disconnect is not a fault, 100 in a day is a clear fault, but that fault could be something in the home rather than a fault in the network.

The disconnects are usually only for 20-30 seconds - not long enough to log into the router.
I guess I'm getting at least 100 in a day, but I only notice some of them, if I'm either on the internet or using my TV box (which is less than 1 metre from the router).

It may be wi-fi interference, do the disconnects affect a computer connected by just an Ethernet cable to the router?

If its really 100 per day then will be visible on the quality monitor, just need to update the firewall on the router to respond to pings.

I logged into the router and I actually saw the status change to Disconnected.
There are so many settings, I'm trying to find out on the Talktalk website how to update the firewall.
