Plusnet packet loss

[link to this post]

I've noticed in the last week or so that browsing feels sluggish at peak times and I'm experiencing a little bit of lag in online games. Had a quick look at my BQMs and I see that there's been an increasing amount of peak time packet loss since the start of November. Also, 31st October looks bad but that could have been an isolated issue.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or whether it might be something to do with local bandwidth issues in my area? I'm with Plusnet on cabinet E2 in Calne and the NGA exchange is Chippenham.

BQM Graph - 31st October

BQM Graph - 10th November

BQM Graph - 12th November

The 10th and 12th of November don't look very nice at all.
Lots of packet loss and an increase in the average latency.
It's so bad it actually increased the minimum latency as shown by the slight bump up in the green between 8pm-10pm.

I recommend asking Plusnet to check with their supplier (BT Wholesale) if your SV-LAN is showing signs of congestion.
It probably will, and they should move you to a less congested SVLAN.

You might have more luck posting on their forums provided the staff are still monitoring the forums during this period of COVID disruption.

If you phone them you may get a customer services rep that just fobs you off saying OpenReach aren't dealing with slow speed faults at the moment and are focusing their resources on customers who have lost service completely and on new line activations.
This is indeed the case however you shouldn't need an engineer.

It definitely looks like congestion to me and the SVLAN at the exchange is usually (though not always) the source of the congestion.

Thanks for the useful advice. Although FTTP is just about to go live (light loss testing was done today) so I think I'll hold off as I'll be moving to either Zen or BT anyway.
