Fibre cable

[link to this post]

Openreach have just installed the fibre cable down our no through road lane. there is a single cable going most of the way .Then for the last four properties to be connected there are now two fibre cables. Do they 0perate as in the old days what was known as "a party line" and double up on one signal line

In a way FTTP is a 32 way party line, the connections are shared on a single fibre or split as required to reach the end users. However all the data is encrypted so you can only receive and send data relating to your own connection. Not like listening in on a phone party line.smile

That one fibre cable could have multiple fibre's in it .
On our lane they used one's with 36 fibre's in it and 1x8 & 1x4 they all look like one cable to the un-trained eye.
They use 'Nodes' and splitters to connect the PON.
Look at this page.
