Once I upgraded to FTTC the number of dropouts did correspond more frequently to when my SNR was low and my speed was high – probably too high. Once the line settled to a lower speed after about a week and higher SNR the dropouts decreased in frequency – normal DSLAM malarkey.
Before upgrading from ADSL to FTTC I was very aware that FTTC technology was a lot more sensitive and finicky compared to ADSL and living with dropouts may have to be the norm.
All the above was somewhat expected, but what is still weird is why my ADSL service of 9 years that only ever dropped out once in a blue moon, but come lock-down it went to complete s**t overnight and never returned back to how it was, even after countless OR and Sky investigations. Maybe it’s all a completely massive coincidence, but then hearing many other people also suddenly experiencing the same after lockdown…hmmm what’s really going on OR?
Can ADSL also suffer from cross-talk as well as FTTC? I always thought it was more forgiving and more stable.
