Michael

Disingenuous, that is nothing to do with today's events. Looks like a poor connection where someone started using it at 9.10AM.

What is it ADSL?

A Darned Slow Line.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.

The best of all possible countries.

It's a bit concerning if that's how TalkTalk's network reacts to such an event. Here's a TTB graph:

The BQM for my Talktalk line didn't even flicker.

There's reports of issues on BTW, TTB, Sky, Vodafone, etc. Even AAISP were not immune to throughput issues during the England game.

It's not concerning and it isn't anything to do with Talktalk alone.
Usage peak records were broken all over the place.

It is a 40Mbs VDSL connection. Attainable Net Data Rate: 44.336 Mbps

There was no one at the property. The problem continued to about 2 am and then restarted at about 11 am today.

No it isn't.

It could be the BTW estimate for the line's best possible, but would need to be on a 55Mbps or 80Mbps connection to attain it.

Edit: By the way, VDSL has never been offered in the UK so far as I know. FTTC delivers VDSL2 and always did.

The Zyxel VMG3925-B10C says " VDSL WAN Rx:40000 Tx:7330 (Kbps)"

I pay for a 40/10 service. I get all the 40 but not all the 10. Strangely since the line to the cabinet the max attainable download connection speed has reduced as the line is probably a little longer but the upload speed as increased from 6Mbps to 7.33 Mbps.

My post gave you two options. It could not be a 40Mbps connection and have a max attainable, (that means throughput) of over 44Mbps.

As you have confirmed it is a 40Mbps then the true max attainable is below 40Mbps.

If the max attainable as shown by the router is/was 44.336Mbps then it is either a higher speed line or by playing with router settings (not recommended on FTTC) you may be able to get closer to 40Mbps actual connection speed.

Edit: Just remembered, the BTW estimates are only in round Mbps, so you must be getting the max attainable from the router.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.

The best of all possible countries.

I would suggest that it is the Max attainable speed reported by the modem/router which is not an actual speed but a value calculated by the modem based on some unknown algorithm which can and often does show a speed above the maximum sync speed for the line.

My HG612 shows 80.908Mbps with a sync of 79.999Mbps at the moment.

Yes smile. I edited my post a few minutes before yours. Along with removing an associated comment.

I was having memory fade as it's a long time since I was in a conversation about attainable speeds. The conversation hadn't been anything to do with router stats until then. Nor speed smile.

I'd also misread (multiple times) kitcat's question "What is it ADSL?" My brain registered "What is ADSL?" Which I did think a weird one referring to some typo somewhere by Michael, as kitcat knows a lot of stuff. That's what caused my earlier alternative meaning of the acronym.

Remembering hazily a bit more about attainable speed. It's basically constantly varying inversely with the difference between the default noise margin (SNRM but often wrongly referred to as SNR) set for the line and the actual margin at the time.

It also ties in with the sync-time speed difference between 3, 4, 5, 6dB margin settings.

If you sync'ed at a noisy time then when the noise goes away (SNRM rising) the attainable shoots up. Re-syncing at a non-noisy time adds to sync speed by about half the difference between the high attainable and the resulting attainable. but an immediate second re-sync to gain more after that tends not to help. It all depends on how the SNRM is varying.

The best of all possible countries.
