Basic FTTP question - Openreach

My exchange is apparently due to be upgraded this year.
The existing OR copper wires are run over the road from poles on the opposite side.

Will the fibre be run the same way, or will they have to run new ducts on this side?

Almost certainly from the pole - depending on your road, it may need a team of two.

Ours is routed the same as copper, up the poles, then across road to house.

What do you mean upgraded ?.

It's quite probable that FTTP will not come from your local exchange, Mine comes 12miles away and not my local one at 3 miles .

I have a basic question about FTTP from Openreach. I'm looking to get FTTP installed in my home and I'm wondering what the process is like. Is it a straightforward process or are there any complications I should be aware of?

It depends, how is your phone line supplied at present, underground or from a telephone pole? If from a pole and Openreach can get the fibre into your house easily and install the FTTP ONT where you would like it then it will be straightforward. On the other hand if you are supplied by direct buried underground cable with no ducting then it could be a problem and they may refuse to install it.

Assuming you can get FTTP what does the checker text say about the installation. Look below the speed estimates in the text where it says FTTP is available.

Our copper is DIG, OR just went overhead, simple!

Our copper is also DIG, and Openreach refused to cable the last two houses on the road, mine included, as the ducting from two doors up runs in the opposite direction to serve the other 99% of houses. They would, of course, install the ducting at my expense for a mere +£6K .....

Moral of this - Don't expect to get FTTP even if the Openreach checker says you can !!

Thanks everyone for the answers. I'd be happy for the fibre to come across from the pole, to where the copper used to come on the house before we had Virgin installed. Can't wait to get rid of that.
