FTTP Ext ringer

[link to this post]

My local garage is getting FTTP.( I think with City Fibre)
At the moment he has the old copper connection phone in the office and extension bell in the workshop.
How can he achieve the same setup with FTTP as simply and cheaply as possible? Thanks.

Assuming that they intend to cease the existing copper line and do VoIP over FTTP:
Simplest: maybe use a DECT phone and 2 handsets?
Cheapest: use voice reinjection to the existing wiring. Need to do a little bit of rewiring, but nothing that a garage shouldn't be able to cope with. Guide here.

Thanks for the link. I will point him to that. I suggested the Dect base station and extra phones too. The copper is going to be switched off.

There is no need to do anything with the phone yet if they don't want to, they can just cancel the broadband service that is running on it currently and keep paying line rental. Cityfibre won't turn that service off unless you've told the new ISP to port the number, in which case the answer to how to connect it all up is "it depends". The BT ringers do work with ATAs though.

An ATA such as the Cisco ATA 191 could be used to ring the outside bell and any other phone just as the landline does at the moment.

Alternatively, there is the Gigaset N300 VOIP Dect base station that and works best with Gigaset Dect phones.

Either of the above should be connected to an internet router.

That would mean paying for both services, and the OP requested cheaply.
Depending on which ISP they use, their new provider might or might not have "native" VoIP support, and any new router supplied might or might not have a 431A socket for the phone. If the router has a socket it might well be locked to the ISP's digital voice. If the router doesn't have a phone socket, use an ATA to connect the phones. But installing FTTP and ceasing a copper line is the ideal opportunity to port the phone number to a 3rd party VoIP provider, which will almost certainly be cheaper than an ISP offering if they shop around, and decouples phone and broadband suppliers so that switching one or other in the future is simpler.

TalkTalk offer 'unlimited' landline/mobile calls for £12 per month, and AFAIK this is same for 'digital voice', that's a hard offer to beat.
