Building a speedtest box

[link to this post]

Just wondered if anyone here has any experience in building a speedtest.net test server. I'm interested in having a go. Just wondered how difficult it is to do. I have a spare machine which I belive to be capable.

Thank you.

Have you considered joining the ntp server project as well? https://www.ntppool.org/en/join.html

I doubt Ookla would accept a server from a customer of YouFibre when YouFibre already provide speedtest.net servers located more centrally within their network. Sorry!

Also I suspect Youfibre might not be too keen either as it would likely be a breach of the AUP

Can I run a server from my home?

Our Terms of Service prohibit running a server for commercial purposes. However personal, non-commercial servers that comply with our Acceptable Usage Policy are acceptable (e.g. VPNs and home security).

I did it as a test to see if they would and they accepted I took it down because It was purely to test if it was possible before deploying an actual server for an ISP.

It took around a week for the approval but as long as you have a domain and static IP it works a treat.

Many Thanks,

Fair enough - carry on..... 😁😊.

I just couldn't see a personal benefit to it .

Seems like it's non-commercial since I don't believe speedtest.net pay speed test server hosts.

Install Speedtest cli.

Then create a basic level sh file and run it as a cron job.
