VM broadband router

[link to this post]

Evening all, new to BBand currently with Virgin media and was on 130mb. Stream with IPTV and although not great worked. Now gone up to 350mb and all seems to be worse. Checked all cables etc reset all possible items but nothing works just stutters every 5 mins and freezes every other 5 mins. My question is when I updated should I have received another updated router or is my old one fine ? Thanks In advance for any help

I had the same upgrade. They sent me a Hub5 router to replace my existing Hub2. You could ask on their support site - https://community.virginmedia.com/
I use Virgin's router in modem mode because I had issues with it.

Worth checking in the Virgin Media specific forum.

Traditional VM, using coax cable, can be different in different areas and technologies. Traditional coax/DOCSIS areas, the Project Lightning areas with fibre outside, and coax inside the home, and then the nexfibre areas which are full FTTP.

On the older coax/DOCSIS areas there can be oversubscription or faults, that affect speed.

Some good advice here indeed. I would also suggest modem mode and look after your own networking kit. If you don't want to do that, I would try disabling the "Intelligent Wifi", i.e. disable the Smart Optimisation on the Wifi , as this will cause the Hub to jump around the channels and bands. Set the best channel for each Wifi band manually for your environment.
Also if you are using the Connect app, remove it from any devices, as it will try to reset your Hub back to Intelligent Wifi. Note you can only manually setup the Hub if you are NOT using the VM Pods.
A BQM is a must, as it can show up problems with the VM circuit, e.g. over subscription, packet loss etc.
