Traceroute Help

[link to this post]

Hi guys,

Just trying to diagnose internet issues so thought i would quickly run one from the ISP router with 10 hops, to the ISP website.

All hops were populated except for hop 3,4 & 10.

The result did come back as failed.

Would this give connection issues and a general buggy feel to the connection?

We have a new 1Gig connection and it is pretty poor with response times as well, pages struggling to load etc, but most of the time its what i would class as 'working'.

if you get nothing back from some its just them set to not respond to ping, your looking for a large jump or variation between hops like hop 3; 20ms, 21ms, 20ms then hop 4; 57ms, 147ms, 78ms.

Cheers,

Yes there arent any massive variations like the example you have given. even with the gaps, there is 1-2ms difference.

We were on a 500Mb connection and that was lightning fast any time, but we then upgraded to 1Gig for near enough the same monthly cost and since the change over, its worse than the previous one.

I am wondering if they have put me on a different network or something rather than lift the cap(?) on my existing.

Edit: Now some emails (inc this notification) are failing to download from the server.

Cetainly seems to be a routing issue somewhere.

It has literally been perfect up until the upgrade.

I guess being routed via the US isnt going to help?

Hi,
Just out of interest have you set up a BMQ under tools on the main site, if so would you mind sharing the live link to see how it looks?
Would you mind sharing the name of the provider to give us some clues as it may be a known issue?

Many Thanks,
RR-THE-IT-GUY

Hi,

Trooli is the provider.

Since posting earlier, had another outtage and after talking to their 'tech support', and i use that term loosely, apparently there is some damage at Horam, which apparently may be the issue.

https://www.trooli.com/our-network/network-status

They have supposedly set up a monitor their end to keep an eye on it.

This may be the reason i am being routed through Slough rather than Fareham?

Still not convinced as when i first got in contact, he was wanting me to walk around the house doing speedtests in various locations, and to run a YT video, rather than listening to what i was explaining.

It was only when i had to repeat myself again about the outtages, he disappeared and then came back and said the the damage may be the reason.

"One step at a time" i think he said.

Anyway, how do i set up a BBQM?

I only use a MBA and iphones.

For benefit of the original poster, you're on IPv6 so you need to make sure you have your router's IPv6 address for BQM.

Thanks.

I set up the monitor and it looked like it pulled in the IPV6 address automatically however the graph doesnt shpw anything yet?

Ok cancel that as i was thinking it would start on the left!

So, can i also set up an ipv4 monotor as well? If so, what IP address should i use?

Well, according to the graph its not looking good!

I did read the instructions, but apart from the huge packet losses, could someone maybe explain if it is as bad as it looks?
