Talktalk are talktalking nonsense. You have FTTC (SOGEA) available, they simply need to migrate you off WLR. Move to a competent provider (and Talktalk is at the very bottom of that pile).

It depends on your chosen new provider.

If you go with BT/EE, Sky, Vodafone or Zen then they will offer you voice service over the same line - it will be Digital Voice so you either plug your handset into a port on the router (and rewire your extension wiring, if you have any) or use DECT wireless handsets.

But having said that, IMO it *would* be better to migrate your phone number to an independent VOIP provider - if you care about voice service and/or keeping your voice number. It then allows you to switch broadband providers without any risk of losing your voice number, and gives you a much wider range of broadband providers to choose from, including those who don't do voice.

Do you want the extra speed, or do you want the lower price? If it's the latter all you need to do is phone them and get recontracted at a lower price.
