Switching to FTTP

[link to this post]

We moved into the house last summer and got NOW broadband as it was cheap(£22).

Openreach have now installed the cabling down our road that allows us to get FTTP, what would be the best way of going about changing as NOW doesn't seem to do FTTP.

Any help or guidance would be great, still learning this home owner life.

A quik google reveals that Now Broadband is the budget brand of Sky, is delivered over Openreach and does a 100M fibre package.

If it was good enough for you when there was no FTTP, I suggest you don't need to jump before your contract is up, but you think about what ISP you want on FTTP and you move when your contract is up, even if that ISP is Now. If you have a landline, you will need to decide too about what to do with that.

If you have enquired of Now and they have said FTTP is not available, it could be because your area is not on their database yet.

As burble has said, it could be just that NOW hasn't yet updated its database, which made me wonder if anyone else has yet? It's even possible Openreach hasn't yet enabled that cabling even though it has been installed.

Easily checked if you haven't already by seeing if EE or BT offer FTTP there.

That's not to suggest you go for either of those, as I abhor both. (Basically EE is BT Consumer as opposed to BT Business). It just checks that Openreach have enabled your postcode.

Check your address at broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com (click on the "Address Checker" tab at the top). Look for "WBC FTTP" which means FTTP is available to order. Ignore "FTTP on Demand" which means FTTP is *not* available.

It also lets you check if any of your neighbours have actually had FTTP installed - look for "ONT exists with active service."

If FTTP is available, the text at the bottom can be helpful too. Post it here if you'd like help understanding it.
