High end machine cant play DVDs

[link to this post]

Hi,

I just recently bought:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
1 gig of RAM
Geforce 8800 GTS

But it can not copy from a DVD drive nor play a DVD at a good speed, it also makes the computer slow down and my mouse starts jerking everywhere.

What is the cause of this, I remember having this problem before but It was just a setting that was wrong?

Thank you.

device manager>ide controllers>primary/secondary ide channel>properties>advanced settings.

your current transfer mode should ideally be udma2 and not pio.

In Device Manager uninstall all the drivers for the on board IDE controllers and immediately reboot. When you do so, Windows will go through the process of finding and installing new hardware (the hardware being the IDE controller). If it can't install automatically (highly unlikely) you will need to use the disc that came with the machine to install the drivers. I used to think this was a bug with ATI chipsets and their drivers, but I've recently encountered the same thing happening with Intel chipsets too.
