Will a DVD reader/writer on a new Windows 7 system also read/write CDs? Looking at PC ads, most never mention the humble CD.

Will they read and write floppy disks too? I have a half-used pack of them sitting in the cupboard which it would be a shame to waste.

Yes, they will even read dinner plates, can't write though.

As long as it can clean the bits off them. Handy for saving my bacon.

You have to remove the floppy disk from the cartridge first If you're handy with very sharp screwdrivers, this is easy enough. If you haven't got a sharp enough screwdriver, try a surgical scalpel. When you're done, reassemble the floppy disk with a large hammer.
P.S. If the floppy disk won't go in the DVD drive, force it in with a very large screwdriver.

Did not read my dinner plate. Must remember to clean off the tomato sauce first before feeding into the USB dish drive.

If you remove all the bits, there'll be nothing to read.

True.
i remember a few years back when Blu-ray and HD DVD was launched, blue-ray players could not play normal DVDs and had to sort that out otherwsie I think we would be using HD DVDs now.
Shame really as i still think it was the better system, once again the better system loses, just like Betamax did.
