Today my Corsair 500w PC PSU fan has decided to vibrate. Have sprayed it with switch cleaner which had no effect, slowed it down and it stopped for a while then started vibrating again. Any suggestions?

How close to your BB equipment is it, bearing in mind the problems you are having with slow sync ?

Maybe the bearings have gone? Most PSUs aren't designed to be end user serviceable and these days it is probably cheaper just to buy a replacement than to try and find someone who can fix it.

It's upstairs modem is downstairs, it has stopped now I think it was just when the PSU was getting under load. More likely was a dry bearing, I tried to get some oil on the shaft but probably missed.

Yes but it's the hassle of changing it, it's in an awkward case.

Be more of a hassle if it went pop and took your computer with it. Ok there is not much chance of it happening, but it could.
How old is it? corsair PSUs are pretty reliable.

No idea, over 3 years. Bought 2 at the time they were on offer at local store, other one still going. I have a spare 500W PSU that I replaced with the Corsair but it hasnt made a noise for a bit now since last night.

The fan is making a noise again, room is very warm at 26.9C so I guess when the fan speeds up to cool the PSU down it oscillates at a resonance.

Not really i suggestion but i changed the fan in my old Hiper PSU for a Noctua fan, it was really simple, just don't touch owt in it, the capacitors are chunky.

My PSU is a bit louder today and so is my video card fans, so yes the heat certainly makes a difference. I would not risk it to be honest.

Last time I put a bit of oil on the spindle and that cured it but it must have dried out.

Not sure how that worked as the spindles are sealed.

Very thin oil called Triflow with Teflon might have gone down the spindle.

Funny enough I replaced a Hiper 500w with this Corsair PSU, still have the Hiper but it is a PIA to get in the case with the motherboard in.

Well, it has stopped making a rattling sound. I thought has the fan failed completely, but on inside inspection, the fan is still turning!
