CDROM DRIVE

[link to this post]

I am using windows XP, recently I found that everytime I put a cd disk into my cd drive the computer rebooted. I changed the CD rom drive with a new one but the new cd drive reads the disk but will not load it states reads reading package then reboots, I have been using the add and remove programe in control panel and find that using the add new programe the software loads up. I have ben using the direct method cd for many years to load up my programs and are puzzle why the cd will not longer load direct. Any comments in what to do
regards

It could be a problem with drivers clashing. Look to see if you have InCD installed - try removing it.

Some CD/DVD writing programs don't like co-existing.

It's a roxio program which can do things like write in packet mode, I believe.
I've no idea why they called it that.

Nope, it's Nero's packet writing program.

It could be that you've recently installed a piece of software that uses the StarForce copy-protection system.

This is known to cause myriad problems, and is a stone b!tch to remove as it uses "stealth" techniques to mask itself.

The same software has been on the computer for some time without problems, the only software downoaded was IE7.00 and the microsoft updates.
