Laptop screen

My elderly father acquired a laptop in June. I have the task of maintaining the system: updating XP and AV definitions, etc, installing hardware, and explaining any minor Windows quirks. I use a product called Solution 30, from my optician's. It's formulated for coated lenses, and I find it does a good job on all types of monitors too.

Thank's. There's a bottle in the cupboard that I'll use when I need to clean me screens. I remain very concerned about what my father has used on his laptop. It feels rough. I don't want to make matters worse

I suspect you can't. If he's used an abrasive cleaner, and it sounds a bit that way (either that or he's used something which leaves a residue), the damage has already been done. Start by trying a damp cloth, see if you can get anything off. Follow that with Solution 30 for a better finish.

I suspect you are right. I don't know what to do for the best: (a) leave him with an awful looking screen until he asks for help or (b) tackle the problem and reveal the degree of damage.

Me, I'd point out how it looks and ask if he'd like you to try and clean it. That way, you don't get (all ) the blame if it doesn't work. I do sympathise with your predicament, though, I'm often put in a similar position by people delving where they shouldn't.
