No sound through speakers!

Over the last few days I notice my PC has been playing up with sound, well everytime I go into WinDVD its always muted and I have to unmute it,

Today no sound at all, despite me unmuting WinDVD and checking RealPlayer and Quicktime.

I also tried taking the phono cable out of the back and reinserting it with no luck.

My speakers have power so it cant be that either!

The drivers and codecs are all ok in device manager

Also noticed I dont get the usual hum that appears out of any speakers when they are on loud, so somethings up(possible loose connection)

Noticed the phono cable works on my monitor, so it cant be that(shame the sound on my montor speakers suck)

Hi there,

From what you describe, it sounds like you have had a hardware failure.

Is your sound on-board, or via a PCI expansion card? Basically, you will need to install something like a soundblaster card and go into the BIOS and disable the on-board sound, if this is what you're currently using.

Lol noticed the sound works through the left speakers if I set the bass to high on the back of the sub, I tried changing the right speakers to left so they work too.

Oh and its onboard audio(the normal green port on back of case)

I cant check more now as I destroyed the phone cable as it got stuck at back of pc so I pulled it and it ripped! doh! now I need to know where to purchase one!
