Laptop recommendations

[link to this post]

Hi

Iam thinking of replacing my desktop PC due to it taking up to much room in the house, but iam thinking of going with a laptop.

As ive never looked at this market before ive no idea what to aim for, my main requirement is for it to play games, currently warcraft, COD and dragon age.

Any suggestions or ideas on what to look for ? budget will range around £1000 - £2000.

Thanks

Personally, I use Dell machines.. However, Novatech do a good range of gaming laptops (I use them a fair amount for components)..

I currently use a novatech - but the model is no longer available.

I play wow and the only problem I've found is the graphics card. Got a 9600M GT and it does everything fine except handling shading - to get decent frame rate in wow I have to turn shading off completely.

Been looking at others and it seems a laptop with the Nvidia GTX240M would be a good bet - a reasonably spec'ed Dell Alienware comes in at about £1500. But it is a little difficult to find many other laptops sold with this graphics card (or even the 260M).

EDIT: Although there are some novatechs for a similar price with the 260 or 280 in them.

In my honest opinion, laptop prices on those with decent gpu's (I only count hd4850, GTX260 and above as decent) are ridiculously high and have stayed high since they launched almost a year ago.

Remember the Nvidia GTX series is just the 8800 gt cleaned up and re-badged. It does not shared any relation to the similarly named desktop card.

And of course buying for gaming wouldn't be a good idea right now since dx11 mobile gpu's must be round the corner in 2 or 3 months.

Want something neat and tidy to play games on, get a shuttle/m-atx pc. Want something to chat on msn and mess around on facebook, get a laptop/netbook.
