Switches - Managed or Unmanaged

Hello, I'm looking at buying a switch for my home network. Was wondering, if it's possible to make a managed switch work as an unmanaged switch? I should imagine so, but thught I'd ask here. I hope that's OK. Specifically the switch I'm considering is Linksys SLM224G

You will need to do some initial set up ... but then just leave it alone. You just do not use the functions available and leave them as defaults - I have a few "managed" switches around and in most cases the are acting as "unmanaged".


On problem with that switch is that it is primarily just 10/100Mbit ... Have a look at SG 102-24 (also called SR2024CT) has a full complement of 1000Mbit ports ...

If you leave the settings as the default then it will act as a unmanaged switch, I have a slm224g and it is a brilliant switch well worth the money.

I have 4 of these switches and I use tham as a unmanaged switch

If it is anything like the SLM versions I am familiar they aren't really "managed" switches anyhow so you should be fine. I read that the SLM stands for "slightly managed"

Good switches though don't get me wrong!
