Current leader Samsung RV510 320GB, £GB Ram, 2.1GHz celeron dual core £299. TBH I'm not sure I'll do much better no matter how long I look... throw in 3% cashback and free delivery. Can't believe high street beats internet though... ebuyer's cheapest is £350.

Typical on-line marketing trick, I'm afraid. Advertise somthing that you don't have at a knock-down price. Hopefully, the punters will buy something else.

No optical drive. Also, Win7 will run on 1GB but 2GB would be much better. Not sure about the Intel Atom processor either.

Will the recipients of the pc need a firewire 400 connection, e.g. for a DV camcorder, at any stage? If so a pcmcia slot might be handy for that...

No, Office is probably the most strenuose task, no special connections needed theres a decent desktop in the house for that sort of thing.
