first time desktop build- suggestions

hi
im new to all this but fancy building my own computer desktop for about £400 max, im looking for it to handle CAD 3D, so im looking at the following possibly?

intel i5 proccessor
8mb ram
500-1Tb hard drive
and possibly dedicated graphics card would be a help

can anyone suggest a set of hardware for this please, (case, fan, hard drive, memory, motherboard, DVD writer etc etc)

i know its a tight budget, but i thought someone may have some experience and suggestions of where to buy these

or if you think its better to buy a ready done pc - im not so bothered about software I have got most of that

It depends on your needs. If you're happy to go pre-built you might get a good system here:

Aim for the £200-£250 and add memory and an operating system. Don't know if you require monitor, speakers or other software on top though.

ok ill try that thanks - i have the operating system but only basic win 7 and not bothered about the sound so long as there is something, i have monitor and 19" technica TV which does seem to work with the pc but not sure if its any good for this.

Intel are faster in general, but more expensive. I'm an Intel fan myself, but have nothing against AMD. It used to be the case that AMD ran very hot, and I like a quiet system, and the two were not compatible (we're talking 8-10 years ago though). I've been an Intel user pretty much since.

I tend to use CPU Benchmark for getting an idea of CPU comparisons. Also good for gfx comparisons.
