Nvidia driver graphics problems

My Asus GT610 1GB graphics card has a problem with the latest nvidia drivers for win 10. I keep getting TDRs, (Graphics driver has crashed and recovered) when browsing the internet or watching flash movies. I dont play games but the last driver not to show this behaviour was 347.88, but when I install this driver windows 10 in its wisdom downloads the latest buggy driver and installs it over the top so I am back to square 1.

I have left feedback for nvidia and ms on their feedback apps and forums but this never gets fixed and their doesnt seem to be a way to stop win 10 from updating to the latest buggy driver.

Anyone else had this or know a workaround?

Not the best idea but use as a band aid. In This PC> right click> properties>hardware>device installation settings. Change the default yes to no and downgrade your driver.

Tried that, windows update still replaces the driver with the latest if I check for updates manually and also some updates dont get installed.

347.88 is ancient, well before Windows 10 was released in its final form. I'm running 359.00 with no problems. But I always update my drivers from the NVidia website rather than letting Windows Update do it.

I got 359 from nvidia but its still buggy just shows how long this bug has been around and hasnt been fixed.

I guess it must be an issue with that particular card. Microsoft provide a patch to prevent driver updates in such a case: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Tried that patch when it first came out but it doesnt seem to stop video driver updates.

Edit: Just tried that patch again and rolled back the driver, see if it sticks!

That patch may have been updated as it seems to work now I manually checked for updates and it didnt install the latest drivers.

Well the update seems hidden so running 347.88 and done a backup to external drive.

Uninstall / re-install might be the way to go, and apply the desired driver version and 'no update' settings.
